Twitter Prays For South African Revolutionary Nelson Mandela’s Health

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, former president of South Africa from 1994-1999 was an anti-aparthied activist, revolutionary. He was born into the Madiba clan, Transkei, on July 18, 1918, to Nonqaphi Nosekeni and Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela.

Mandela is widely admired for his anti-colonial and anti-apartheid efforts, for which he served 27 years in prison. He has received over 250 awards including the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize, the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Soviet Order of Lenin. He also set up Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund in 1995 and established Nelson Mandela Foundation and The Mandela-Rhodes Foundation.

The 94-year-old revolutionary was admitted to hospital with a recurrence of a lung infection. He spent nearly three weeks in hospital in December with a lung infection and after surgery to remove gallstones. He has also written an autobiography “Long Walk To Freedom” which was published in 1995.
