Several fishermen have gone missing as Typhoon Utor sweeps into the northern Philippines in what is said to be this is the year's most powerful typhoon yet.
By 0600GMT on Monday the National Disaster Agency said at least one person was dead and 14 fishermen missing.
The coastal town of Casiguran bore the brunt of the storm's power with winds gusting up to 170 kilometers an hour. Houses were wrecked, electricity and phones were out as lines came down, trees were uprooted and the only access road was blocked by landslides.
The typhoon was expected to sweep through other parts of the northern Philippines before heading towards the South China Sea by Tuesday.
