This is something that school districts need to be really careful about. If you are going to produce a field-side banner aiming to increase your sponsorships, make sure that you properly spell check and word check before it goes for printing!
Always remember to spell check, should be the one rule you need to always follow. And the Red Lion School District situated in Pennsylvania have learned this lesson the hard way Check out their banner below and see if you can spot the mistake!
The spelling mistake which was first noted by Deadspin and was later posted on Twitter is extremely embarrassing, and well, funny
Whether or not it was a hoax was later confirmed by the marketing and communications manager for the Red Lion School District, Don Dimoff. Don cleared everything up and said that they were a purveyor of public education not ‘pubic’ education.
"To be honest with you, all that really happened was the sign company made a spelling error, and in the midst of putting it up for a football game some of the other people missed it," Dimoff told Prep Rally. Even though the mistake was completely unintentional it did help the school in gaining all kinds of unwanted attention from outside the community to the school’s sponsorship efforts.
All of this actually made Dimoff’s job more difficult as he personally has to double and triple check everything to avoid any such embarrassment in future.
