Unite Expected To Announce BA Cabin Crew Strikes

"Union leaders are expected to announce the dates of strikes for British Airways cabin crew after talks with the airline's bosses collapsed on Wednesday. Officials from the Unite union are holding a news conference later and industrial action now looks to be on the agenda. Unite leaders spent Thursday locked in internal talks to discuss the next plan of action, following unsuccessful meetings with BA about the long running row over cost cutting. Union members voted in favour of strikes last month, and by law Unite has to announce action by next Monday, giving seven days notice of any walkouts. A planned 12-day stoppage by 12,500 cabin crew over Christmas was halted after a successful legal challenge from BA, which has forced the union to rule out striking over Easter. Discussions between the two sides were mediated by TUC general secretary Brandan Barber, but no agreement was finalised."
