Us State Department had posted the maps of India and Pakistan over a month and a half ago where they showed the disputed land Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) as part of Pakistan. This obviously stirred a lot of backlash from India. The US State Department then removed the maps.
It has now posted the new revised maps of India and Pakistan on its website. This revised map of Pakistan and India are now online and compiled with US cartographical policy. This new map has a dashed line for the 1972 LoC (Line of Control) that divides Kashmir. Nuland said that reflected its unresolved status.
India and Pakistan have fought two wars over the Himalayan territory, and each claim the portion that the other controls. Indian journalists have repeatedly raised the map issue since complaints emerged post 20th November 2011. India objected that all of Jammu and Kashmir was theirs while Pakistan complained as well.
