US Tourist Stabbed To Death In Israeli Wood

The women were accosted as they walked to an archaeological site in the woods near Beit Shemesh, southwest of Jerusalem and repeatedly stabbed with a bread knife.

The dead woman was identified as Christine Logan, a tourist from the United States.

Her guide, Kaye Wilson, an Israeli citizen who emigrated from Britain 19 years ago, was stabbed at least a dozen times before she managed to escape. Admitted to hospital, her condition was described as stable.

Micky Rosenfeld, a police spokesman, said the brutal nature of the attack suggested that the perpetrators could have been terrorists but added that investigators had not ruled out criminal motives.

According to Miss Wilson, the two Arab men stopped them in the woods and asked for water, which neither woman had.
