Vivienne Westwood is quite notorious for her comments on fashion. What was meant to be an interview about Punk: From Culture to Chaos, turned into a rant about the First Lady’s fashion and sense of style.
Eric Wilson of The New York Times writes that he asked the English fashion designer and business woman about Michelle Obama’s habit of recycling clothes. Westwood bluntly replied that she didn’t want to talk about it and she thought that whatever Mrs. Obama wears is dreadful.
But that’s not all. When journalist Wilson asked Westwood to elaborate what she meant by her previous comment, she replied: “I don’t want to talk about it. Really, I can’t. She’s a very nice looking lady, but it’s a nonstarter regarding clothes that suit her. Jackie Kennedy was a different matter altogether. It just has to suit her and be something that makes a human being more glamorous. That’s what fashion is there for. It’s there to help, not just to make you look more conservative.”
Well that was pretty straightforward. And it’s certainly not for the first time the lady has done it. Just last month she slammed the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton for not wearing her clothes enough.
Michelle Obama is really popular for her style and personality along with being the wife of president of the United States of America. Recently, her bangs got a lot of attention from the international media and her appearance and outfit for the Oscars 2013 was also widely discussed in the news. Vivienne Westwood’s comments will certainly grab media’s attention because she did not just slam a lady’s sense of style; it is the First Lady of the United States of America.
