Teen's Explosive Fake-Bomb Prom Proposal Lands Him In Hot Water

The “promposal” may have worked on his crush but failed to amuse the school administrators.

dangerous bomb in the world

There are many ways to get a date for prom but strapping a fake bomb on your chest and parading through your school is certainly not one of them.

La Center High School in Washington State has suspended a senior Ibrahim Ahmad for doing exactly that. The administration suspended the Middle-Eastern teen for five days after he pulled the dramatic stunt to ask another student, Rilea Wolfe, to school’s annual dance.

“I kno it’s a little late, but I’m kinda... THE BOMB!” Ahmad’s hand-lettered sign read. “Rilea, will u be my date to prom?”

During his bizarre lunchtime display, the 19-year-old was supporting a paintball vest with wires and paper tubes, resembling an explosive device.

Wolfe, for some reason, said yes and agreed to accompany him, though unfortunately, the pair will not be able to attend the event due to Ahmad’s untimely suspension.

“In ‘promposals,’ you’re supposed to go big,” the teen later told the Columbian. “It’s kind of a trending thing now, too, where everyone just asks in a really creative way.”

He believes that the school administration is being racist.

“I’m Middle Eastern, and I thought the bomb was kind of funny and clever. I wasn’t wearing the vest for more than, like, 20 seconds. I asked her, took a picture, took it off, and then the school got upset,” he explained. “It was really unfair, and it kind of felt racist. If anyone else did that, I feel like no one else would have gotten in trouble for it.”

The district has also released a statement defending the punishment.

“Given all that is going on in the world today, even simulated weapons/devices can undermine our collective efforts to create a safe school and therefore are handled with appropriate disciplinary actions,” the statement said.

School Superintendent Mark Mansell believes that Ahmad’s proposal didn’t scare other students, saying that they weren’t concerned that the device was real. However, the school officials still felt that they should take an action.

On the bright side, the 19-year-old is now going on a dinner date with the girl he went to such lengths for.
