The world number seven stunned the tennis world on Wednesday by calling it a day at the age of 28, six weeks after her first grand slam triumph.
Her tearful retirement announcement broke the hearts of countless fans all over the world. People on different social media platforms are asking her to rethink her decision. One Twitter user wrote, “Don’t retire Marion! Take a break but please come back. Tennis needs you.” Another posted, “Please don’t quit. You are a fighter, relax yourself for few months and come back 2014 AO. You can do it.”
Former top tennis players Goran Ivanisevic and Guy Forget have urged Marion Bartoli to reconsider her shock decision to retire from the sport, saying the Wimbledon champion would regret missing out on many great moments.
French tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou was convinced this was not the end of Bartoli's tennis career.
“Marion, hope you are already preparing your comeback ... I checked if we weren't the 1st of April when I read.” he wrote on Twitter.
Bartoli’s shocking announcement came just after forty days when she won her first grand slam at Wimbledon. And the way she bid goodbye to the world of tennis, it’s apparent that the decision must have been much more difficult for her than what her fans are feeling like right now.
The tennis player said with tears in her eyes, “I've been playing for a long, long, long time, and it's time for me now. It is.”
