Weather Wrecks Havoc On UK

" Heavy rain and winds of up to 100 miles an hour caused flooding, closed roads and disrupted transport across southern Britain on Saturday. The countrys worst storm this year triggered flash floods in coastal regions and scores of motorists had to be rescued from their cars. In several areas trees toppled onto cars and power lines. A gust of 100 mph was recorded on Saturday at Needles, on the Isle of Wight, and 60 houses were damaged by a tornado in the town Benfleet, east of London. The wild weather prompted authorities in London to cancel a fireworks display scheduled for the Lord Mayors Show, an annual parade of pageantry. In Dorset, stormy winds whipped up trees and waves. Wind surfer, Mark Volanthen, told Britains Sky News it was the ""windiest day Ive seen around here for a while."""
