The Westboro Baptist Church activists stormed into Hollywood and made their way into the Oscars 2013 ceremony chanting and waving slogans like “GOD H8S FAGS” at tourists and insiders.

The protest was staged on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and N. Highland Avenue, the security area surrounding the awards show.

A protester said, “Tonight we are here at the Oscars because the power brokers of Hollywood … and the news media, in the main, is in kind of a slave mentality to the militant fag agenda.”

The Westboro Baptist Church is notorious for its anti-gay stance which has been condemned by the gay community, gay-rights activists and Christian groups alike.

In December, a petition was signed to officially designate the Westboro Church as a hate group for picketing the funerals of Sandy Hook victims.

The Westboro Church protest at the Oscars was not instigated by any film released this year; it was just because of the fact that Hollywood movies are ‘softening the idea of homosexuality’. They also defended the usage of the (derogatory) word ‘fag’ on Biblical grounds, calling it ‘firebrand’, a little stick that ignites a fire according to Holy Scriptures.

Many people have criticized the Westboro Baptist Church for their Oscars protest. Some of them shared their views on social media websites citing the activism to be just an act of ‘seeking attention’:
