The above video shows an 8 year old girl addressing a crowd at Muslims Rise conference in Sydney. The event was held by the Australian chapter of Hizb ut-Tahrir. The 8 year old, talks of the merits of Jihad- the term for religious Islamic war.
The video also shows a little child being photographed by his parent holding a placard that reads, “Behead all those who insult the prophet.”
The Muslim world is in an uproar ever since the film “Innocence of Muslims” emerged. There have been protest, riots, clashes and even loss of lives. This event was also part of one such demonstration.
The video is shocking as well as disturbing. Phrases like, “Ummah is alive and well, that her sentiments are for Islam, her love is for Jihad, she has unshackled herself from the fear which she held,” and “No one is too young,” coming from an 8 year old child makes one wonders what goes on in her mind?
A little girl, or a boy for that matter, of that age, has no business uttering words of that sort or hold signs demanding beheadings.
It is a fact that such thoughts do not originate from their minds but are installed there – sometimes by religious fanatics, sometimes by ill guided, sentimental parents. Regardless, the seeds of misinformation and lack of tolerance are sown at a really young age.
These are the pictures from Egypt and Pakistan respectively, of the riots taking place recently to protest the offensive film.

These are innocent children. They have no place in a violent environment. The worst part is they are not put there by their enemies, but by their loved ones. Apart from the physical threats they face, the images and lessons their young minds are absorbing will last a lifetime and mar their perspective.
Many steadfast parents, irrespective of their religion, introduce their children to religious teachings at an early stage. There is nothing wrong in that. But to expose them to a perspective of their faith that is warped and crooked; is morally, ethically and even religiously wrong, no religion of the world teaches hate.
In Islam, the meaning of Jihad is struggle or effort, and it means much more than holy war – the only way interpreted by religious fanatics.
In its true meanings, Jihad means three things:
- Struggle to live out the Muslim faith as well as possible
- The struggle to build a good Muslim society
- Holy war: the struggle to defend Islam, with force if necessary
By no means, it stands for violence and killing of innocent people. Islam does not stand for punishing the accused of a crime without his guilt being proven. Even then, it asks to give preference to forgiveness.
The sad part of it all is that these preachers of Islam, preach it wrong. In a bid to protect their religion, they put it in harm. In teaching their children in tolerance and hate, they make sure the harm transcends their life time and goes in to the future.
