Toya Graham has gained viral fame overnight when footage of her smacking her son amidst the Baltimore riots gained immediate popularity. Baltimore has been a hot bed of uproar and violence, involving many high school students. When Graham saw her 16-year-old son participating in the riots, her maternal instincts kicked in.

Graham said in a CBS News interview:

"He gave me eye contact. And at that point, you know, not even thinking about cameras or anything like that. That’s my only son and at the end of the day I don’t want him to be a Freddie Gray."

The video shows Graham scolding and hitting her son for allegedly throwing rocks at police.

“I was shocked, I was angry,” Graham said. “I’m just grateful I was able to get him home."
