So why did Obama take the time to answer a few general questions in this manner? Here are a couple of reasons:

First and foremost, it is because of the prominent position of Reddit in the internet world. Reddit is known to be the front page of the internet, a place that has an important share as to what becomes news on the internet. By appearing on Reddit, POTUS – President of the United States, has now a stamped younger tech savvy, audience. And he’s trying to adapt the new rules of the wired-world.

Secondly, Reddit is a forum that offered an appropriate platform to the young internet users and gave the President a chance to have a wonderful Q&A experience. With the help of the Q&A session initiated by Obama, the President got an opportunity to go one-on-one with the most intelligent users of the internet and answer their questions related to core ‘issues’.

Moreover, the experience is also a unique and healthy one for Redditors as they were able to ask their questions; whether serious or funny, directly from the President. The whole thing is another example of how the Obama administration in particular are bypassing the established channels of the mainstream media to new and unconventional ways of interacting with generation Y.
