Uber app, uber driver helps deliver baby

A woman who gave birth in the back of a taxi cab ironically wound up naming her child Uber.

Babli called a taxi to pick her up when an ambulance failed to arrive. Yet she was unable to make it to the hospital as the excruciating pain was too much to bear so her taxi driver, Shahnawaz, stepped in to help.

"The woman was writhing in pain and her friends did not know what to do," Shahnawaz said.

Without hesitation, Shahnawaz then delivered Babli’s baby boy.

"I pulled out the towels from the seats and poured some drinking water into a bowl. The child was born within minutes and I was really happy to see that he was responding," he said.

The Delhi woman was then rushed to the hospital’s emergency unit.

The family was so appreciative of Shahnawaz’s assistance that they gave him the privilege of naming the child. He chose to name the baby after the cab company he works for — Uber.

"The doctors asked if I was her husband,” Shahnawaz said. “This was one of the happiest moment of my life.”
