An Iranian-born U.S. citizen was speaking in Assyrian on the phone on the Bay Area Rapid Transit when suddenly she was called a terrorist by a fellow passenger.
And, yes, the person hurling racist abuse invoked Donald Trump. (Surprise, surprise!)
The woman on the phone, Ivet Lolham, who immigrated from Iran, captured the incident on camera. The video starts with her saying to the passenger: "Go ahead, say it again."
“I was on the BART going home after a long day and this lady right here heard me talk Assyrian on the phone. You can see what happened next,” Lolham wrote on Facebook. She added the hashtags #TrumpSupporters #peopleneedtocalmdown #Idontfeelsafeanymore #really #GodhelpAmerica."
Racially charged incidents have become the new normal ever since Trump was elected as the next president of the United States. To name a few:
In fact, Trump supporters are using violence against anyone who seems to raise their voice against the media mogul. For example, a Trump fan rammed his truck into an Afghan war veteran holding anti-trump sign.
“Since the election, we’ve seen a big uptick in incidents of vandalism, threats, intimidation spurred by the rhetoric surrounding Mr. Trump’s election,” Richard Cohen, president of the Southern Poverty Law Center told USA Today. “The white supremacists out there are celebrating his victory and many are feeling their oats.”
