Women Not Equal To Men Says Turkish President

The President launched a bitter attack against feminists in Turkey.

Oh boy. Wait till you read these comments.

The devoutly Muslim president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said that biological differences between women and men meant they cannot serve the same functions in life.

In other words, men and women are not equal.

"Our religion (Islam) has defined a position for women (in society): motherhood," Erdogan said on Monday in a speech at a conference on women and justice in Istanbul.

"Some people can understand this, while others can't. You cannot explain this to feminists because they don't accept the concept of motherhood," Erdogan said, adding that women and men could not be treated equally "because it is against human nature."

"You cannot get women to do every kind of work men can do, as in communist regimes," Erdogan said. "Give her a shovel and make her work? You cannot do that. This goes against her delicate structure."

Yup. Women can't lift a shovel! They should be having babies!

He continued, "Their characters, habits and physiques are different.... You cannot place a mother breastfeeding her baby on an equal footing with men".

Erdogan has been accused by critics of limiting the civil liberties of women. Erdogan has also declared that every woman in Turkey should have three children and with proposals to limit abortion rights and the morning-after pill.

Three kids! Who has time to lift a shovel with all those kiddos?

One Tweeter decided to take his remarks and turn them around.
