Supatra Sasuphan is an 11-year-old girl from Thailand and the Guinness Book Of World Records has declared her as ‘The Hairiest Girl.’ A title that she is quite proud of.
Supatra has a genetic condition due to which she has excessive hair growth all over her body including her face. The extremely rare condition is known as Ambras Syndrome. Only 50 people have been known to have this condition since the Middle Ages.
Despite her condition Supatra is a very spirited young girl. She did face difficulties as a child when she started going to school. She was teased and bullied, other children would get scared of her appearance. But Supatra has proved that beauty lies deeper than the skin. She won over all her fellow students and teachers.
Her aptitude for academics, her confidence, her determination and most importantly her refusal to give up on her dreams have made her an inspiration for all those around her.
“She is very, very good…She is a very good student, very happy.” – A teacher at Supatra’s school.
Supatra dreams of growing up to be a doctor. She wants to help the sick people and cure her family.
“It's the way I am…I don't even think about it.”
Truly this little girl is an inspiration for all to learn from. Also to commend on is the accommodating nature of Thai society. Had this been countries like India, Pakistan or Bangladesh, the girl would have faced a large amount of social hatred and rejection, like in the case of the Werewolf sisters in India. But the Thai society has allowed this girl to evolve from her misery and grow up as a normal human being.
