It's not every day we get to see siblings face each other in sports. Today, Soccer fans witness the clash of Boateng brothers when Germany takes on Ghana in a crucial World Cup Group G match.
Both Kevin-Prince and Jerome are known for their fierce approach on the field, which could make the encounter all the more so interesting. Would they go soft on each other or give even extra knowing that all the eyes are on them? If history is any guide, chances are they wouldn't pull any punches, just like all the other famous sports siblings before them.
Let's check out some of the most famous sports rivalries that have existed between people who came out of the same womb:
The Williams Sisters (Tennis)
Venus Williams and her younger sister Serena Williams dominated women's tennis like no other siblings ever would in any sports. Both have been World No. 1 tennis player on multiple occasions and have won 24 Grand Slam titles between them. Since their eras overlapped, therefore, they clashed with each other on 24 occasions with the record currently standing 14-10 in Serena's favor.
The Boateng Brothers (Soccer)
Boateng Senior left Ghana in 1981 to study in Germany. His two sons, Kevin-Prince and Jerome, were both born in Germany but the former plays his international football for Ghana while the latter for the country of his birth. They also play for rival clubs in German Bundesliga, which means that being in opposing camps is not quite a regular thing for the two.
They made history in 2010 when they became the first brothers to play on opposite teams at the World Cup. Germany beat Ghana 1-0 in that game, so the older Kevin-Prince might have some scored to settle tonight.
The Gasol Brothers (Basketball)
Pau Gasol of the Los Angeles Lakers is the most famous and skilled of the two brothers. He even has two NBA Championships and a Rookie of the Year title. However, his younger bro Marc has jumped out of his brother's shadow in the past few years. He was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2013 and is now regarded as one of the best Centers in the game. As of right now, the younger Gasol would edge the older one in a 1-on-1 duel.
The Schumacher Brothers (Motorsports)
Ralf Schumacher was a talented driver but he didn't come close to matching his older brother Michael Schumacher's prowess on the racing track. In an 11-year Formula 1 career, the younger Ralf won just six races while Schumi amassed a mammoth total of 91.
The Manning Brothers (American Football)
The older Peyton is far and away the more talented quarterback of the two, but Eli is no slouch either. In fact, he has two Super Bowl championships as compared to Peyton's solitary title. Eli also has the distinction of winning a title against his older bro's arch nemesis, Tom Brady.
Adi and Rudi Dassler (Sports Business)
Sibling rivalry in sport is not restricted to the field of play as the German Dassler brothers demonstrated in their family feud in the sports shoe business.
Adi founded the company that later became known as Adidas and Rudi joined him in the business. But a falling out meant that Rudi left and went on to form rival company Puma.
