Watch This Hockey Player Punch Himself In The Face During a Fistfight

It was just a stray punch, Patrick. Don't beat yourself up over it.

The sole objective of a fist fight is to inflict as much damage as possible on your opponent – definitely not yourself. But, it seems Buffalo Sabres right winger Patrick Kaleta got a bit confused when taking on Ottawa Senators defenseman Jared Cowen in a punch-up on Monday at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Before landing an elbow on Cowen's face, Kaleta surprised everyone by first punching himself in the temple. It makes little sense as to why he struck himself. Bleacher Report suspects he might have been trying to psych himself up, but that's just a guess – and a farfetched one, to be honest.

Kaleta could have been mad at himself and his Sabres for being piss poor all season, or he might have been trying to replicate this Tyson Fury self-punch:

Either way, it actually worked out quite well for Kaleta because he threw and landed way more punches than Cowen. He kind of won it too, just like Fury had won his bout after punching his own face. What do we know: Maybe hitting yourself in a fist fight gains you some secret advantage that so far we are unaware of.
