The Boston Celtics have allowed head coach Doc Rivers to pursue a coaching opportunity with the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for a future first-round draft pick, the team said on Tuesday.

The much-rumoured move was not confirmed by the Los Angeles Clippers but multiple media reports said the 51-year-old Rivers will be introduced as the team's coach on Wednesday.

In nine NBA seasons with Boston, Rivers amassed a record of 416-305 in the regular season and 59-47 during the postseason, including an NBA championship in 2008.

His replacement was not named.
