Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson doesn’t let any opportunities to take a dig at his former club Los Angeles Lakers pass him by.
May be that’s his idea of tough love, but sometimes it isn’t obvious enough and is taken the wrong way by the club’s fans. For example, he jumped on the Kevin Durant bandwagon and went so far in his praise for the Thunder man that he ended up insulting Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.
He first said was:
Right before our eyes we are witnessing the greatness of Kevin Durant. With Westbrook being out KD has taken his game to the next level!— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) January 28, 2014
The great ones Michael, Larry, Kareem, LeBron and now Kevin Durant can put their teams on their back and win!— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) January 28, 2014
The Magic man chose not to include Kobe in his list of ‘great ones’ who ‘can put their teams on their back and win.’ The micro-blogging site’s 140-character limit still had enough left for him to mention the name of Black Mamba, but the 2002 Hall Of Famer chose not to include it.
Remember, this is the Kobe whose five rings are three more than LeBron’s, and whose best scoring average for a season – 35.4 PPG – is more than four points better than KD’s.
So how does this Kobe-snub sit with Lakers fans on Twitter?
I honestly think Magic Johnson is jealous of Kobe and doesn't want him to get more rings than he got.— LakersCrazies (@lakers_crazies) January 29, 2014
Magic Johnson trolling the Lakers is one of the most fascinating story lines of the NBA season.— Arash Markazi (@ArashMarkazi) January 29, 2014
Lmao at magic Johnson failing to recognize kobe bryant as a great player— Mohamed (@ibn_kaysar) January 29, 2014
Recently, Magic also dissed the incumbent Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni by telling Jay Leno: “We’re the Lakers, we got to have a championship coach. We made a critical mistake in not bringing Phil Jackson back.”
