Former Major League Baseball Player Ryan Freel Found Dead (VIDEO)
Former Major League Baseball player Ryan Freel was found dead late Saturday night in Jacksonville, Florida from an apparent suicide on December 22nd 2012.
Freel, who was 36-years-old, had an eight year career in the big leagues, most of it with the Cincinnati Reds but he also played briefly for the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago Cubs, and Kansas City Royals.
Freel spent most of his career in the outfield but also played second and third base defensively. He had his best season offensively in 2004 when he hit for a .277 average with three home runs, 48 runs batted in, and 37 stolen bases in 143 games.
The Jacksonville sheriff's office reported that he died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound but that a medical examiner would make a final determination.
Freel last played in the Majors in 2009 for the Royals but didn't officially announce his retirement until May of 2010.
