India's First Mr. Universe Turns 100

Manohar Aich is 4ft and 11 inches tall and a 100 years old!

He brought honor to his homeland, India, in 1952 by winning the title of Mr. Universe. Amazingly though he started body building during his air force days in early 40s, he did most of the training for his amazing physique, not in a gym but behind bars.

Protesting against the colonial rule landed him in jail and he got released from there only at the time of partition. But the years in between did not go to waste. He trained on his own and without any professional help or equipment. So impressed were the jail authorities by the little guy’s efforts that they provided him with special diet t o help him in his efforts.

His diminutive size landed him the title of 'Pocket Hercules'. Years have been kind to him, but only because of his attitude towards life. Poverty and hard times have been his constant companions, but he never loses hope. Staying happy under all circumstances, according to him, is the key to a long and healthy life.
