This Is Why Kevin Durant Should Be the New MVP

Kevin Durant showed just why him and not LeBron James is the leading contender for this season’s MVP title, as the Oklahoma City Thunder star‘s 33 points powered his side to a 112-95 victory at American Airlines Arena.

The Heat were extremely hot to start the highly-anticipated encounter, and at one point, had built up a lead of 22-4. But then the Thunder found their range, especially from downtown, and that proved to be the difference between the two sides. The visitors nailed 16 of their 27 shots from beyond the arc, while the two-time defending champs drilled only three of their 19.

So hot were Scott Brooks’ men from the three-land that late in the fourth quarter they had turned the 19-point deficit into a 25-point lead. LeBron finished with 34 points and was more efficient than Durant with his shooting – although uncharacteristically inefficient in defence – but the rest of his teammates didn’t match his level.

The MVP debate will continue when the two sides meet in Oklahoma next month. Meanwhile, check out the game’s highlight video up above.
