Posted by 51-year-old Paolo Ciani from the right-wing Future and Liberty party on his Facebook profile, Ciani defended himself from accusations of racial overtones to the picture. He said: “What I was doing was making a footballing comment, I was highlighting how Balotelli had committed a bad foul which could have got him sent off — then his reaction after scoring was so over the top one of his team mates had to put his hand over his mouth.”
He further said that claims of racism against him are completely baseless as he works with non-European nationals. Balotelli engaged in verbal fight with Ireland’s Richard Dunne by showing him an elbow after he scored a goal for his side. Before the matter could intensity Balotelli was hushed up by team-mates Thiago Motta, Leonardo Bonucci and Federico Balzaretti.
Mentioning these incidents Ciani also said that with his extravagant vision of life, Balotelli is a poor example for younger generation. However, in order to cover-up for the racial charges rising against him posted a picture of himself with a black resident.
It is important to mention here that Ciani comments came after UEFA launched an investigation against Croatian fans for throwing bananas at Balotelli. Interestingly, Manchester City striker before the tournament vowed to walk off if he was racially abused.
