Ponte Vedra Beach, FL -- Graeme McDowell and Nick Watney moved to 11-under par Saturday and shared the lead when play was suspended for the day due to darkness at The Players Championship.
There was a 4 1/2 hour weather delay earlier Saturday that pushed things back. The third round, which was suspended for the day at 8:04 p.m. (et), will resume Sunday morning at 7:45 a.m.
McDowell, the reigning U.S. Open champion, was three-under through five holes, while Watney was minus-two after five holes of the third round.
They share a one-stroke lead over Steve Stricker and David Toms.
Stricker, who was paired with McDowell, was two-under for his round. Toms, who led by one entering the third round at the TPC Sawgrass, was even-par after five holes.
K.J. Choi, who was three-under through 10 holes, and Lucas Glover, who was one-under after six, share fifth place at minus-nine.
World No. 2 Martin Kaymer and world No. 3 Luke Donald are among five players tied for seventh place at minus-eight. Kaymer birdied the first four holes before a birdie on the seventh gave him a share of the lead at 10-under.
Kaymer bogeyed three in a row from the eighth before making birdie on the par- five 11th as play was halted for the day.
Donald birdied the second to move to minus-nine, but gave that stroke back with bogey on the fifth, his first bogey of the week.
McDowell and Watney both birdied the first. McDowell came back with birdies on the third and fifth to get to 11-under.
Watney, who is in the final group with Toms, also birdied No. 2 to move to minus-11. He parred the next three before play was stopped for the day.
"I was just excited to get out here more than anything. I'm just glad we got some holes in," Watney said in a television interview. "Obviously, tomorrow is going to be a long day, but hopefully I'll have a chance in the end."
The consolation for Graeme McDowell is he still has the lead at The Players Championship.
