"Blade Runner" Pistorius, a double amputee who became one of the biggest names in world athletics, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, 30-year-old model Reeva Steenkamp.
However the case took another unexpected turn Sunday with the news that his older brother, Carl, is himself facing charges for the death of a woman in a traffic accident.
Carl Pistorius faces a charge of unlawful, negligent killing for a 2008 road death. The chief police investigator Hilton Botha was removed from the case when it came to be known that he himself was facing charges of seven counts of attempted murder for shooting at a vehicle with seven passengers.
Pistorius was released on bail Friday and stayed at the home of his uncle Arnold in Waterkloof, an affluent suburb of Pretoria, where Oscar is now staying. His brother, Carl, came to visit the house on Sunday.
According to latest developments and details of the post-mortem examination, the police say he beat model girlfriend with a cricket bat before he shot her.
In a sworn affidavit read to the bail hearing in Pretoria magistrates’ court last week, Pistorius claimed that he used the bat to break down the toilet door after the shooting, saying he had not realised his girlfriend was in the bathroom.
The bloodstained bat, which is currently being examined by a police forensics team as well as the scientific evaluation of the crime scene, will be key evidence when Pistorius goes on trial for premeditated murder.
There have been whispers of Pistorius’ recklessness and violent behavior. People have described him as a reckless risk taker who has been in trouble before, such as a boating accident in 2009 which put him into a hospital intensive care unit.
Time will bring forward the real details of what happened on the unfortunate day of 14th February in Pistorius’ house.
