He was in surgery Tuesday night, his fiancee tweeted.

Ouch! Retired baseball superstar Jose Canseco was rushed to the hospital after almost shooting off his finger.

Reports say he was cleaning his gun when it went off. Home with his fiance, Leila Knight, he yelled for her to call 911. She later took to Twitter to update the public.

Knight told the Los Angeles Times that doctors have already said he will never have full use of his left hand again. Knight said the middle finger of his left hand, which the bullet hit, would either have to be amputated or undergo full reconstruction surgery.

José Canseco is a Cuban-American former Major League Baseball outfielder and designated hitter. Canseco has admitted using performance enhancing drugs during his playing career, and in 2005 wrote a tell-all book. He now competes in boxing and mixed martial arts. Uh-oh. He may have to find a new activity to stay in shape.
