Conference USA officials are reviewing the outburst by UTEP coach Tim Floyd that got him tossed out of his team's loss at East Carolina on Wednesday night.
The league confirmed the review Thursday as the team was returning to El Paso, Texas.
"I think it was a coaching box violation. I had my big toe out of the box, received a warning, turned my back and walked to the bench and got a technical," Floyd told the El Paso Times. "I'd never seen him (the official who issued all the technicals) before and I don't know who he is. I've always earned my technicals and I didn't feel like I earned it."
The Miners (20-8, 8-5 CUSA) were whistled for 27 fouls and five technicals in the 83-76 loss to East Carolina. The Pirates (14-13, 6-7) went 35-for-45 from the free-throw line.
Floyd and assistant coach Phil Johnson both received two technicals and were ejected with 18:48 left in the game. Floyd marched onto the court to scream at the official who gave it to him. Eventually a police officer intervened and led Floyd off the court.
