Tim Tebow Stats

We’re not trying to defend Tim Tebow too much here. During the Denver Bronco’s 45-10 blowout loss to the Detroit Lions Sunday, it looked like the young quarterback was still not ready for the NFL game, as he had three fumbles and an interception while failing to assemble any type of consistent offense. Still, the level of disrespect flung at the quarterback during and after the game took things much too far.

“Can you believe ’15’?” an unnamed Lions defender asked of Tebow. “Come on – that’s embarrassing. I mean, it’s a joke. We knew all week that if we brought any kind of defensive pressure, he couldn’t do anything. In the second half it got boring out there. We were like, ‘Come on – that’s your quarterback? Seriously?’”

While we see the defender’s point, as Tebow struggled mightily for the Broncos, his delivery shows absolutely no professionalism. You’re probably making millions of dollars a year and are a part of the most esteemed football league in the world, so show some class and respect. And if you have the guts to say something like that, don’t hide in the shadows by saying it off the record.

The disrespect came in different forms too, as at least two Detroit players (middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch and tight end Tony Scheffler made a point of 'Tebowing' at different parts of the game, imitating the one-kneed pose Tebow struck while praying after last Sunday’s overtime victory of the Miami Dolphins. Note to Tulloch and Scheffler: Tebow didn’t strike that pose to get attention or mock another player; he did it to give praise to a higher power for something he accomplished. Try to have some respect.
