With a simple Facebook post, French football legend Thierry Henry brought an end to his playing career.
After his contract with the New York Red Bulls expired, it was expected that he might return to Europe for one last hurrah. Possibilities of a third spell at his beloved Arsenal or a move back to Monaco – where it all started – were mooted.
But the 37-year-old announced an hour or so ago via his Facebook account that he has played his last game as professional footballer and will now join Sky Sports as a pundit.
Henry was a rarity in world football. It is said that a striker is a great goal scorer or a scorer of great goals. He was both. Most European players head to the MLS in the twilight of their careers, hoping to relax and collect big paychecks. But during his four-and-a-half-year stay in NYC, Henry did everything he did in Europe, which is scoring awesome goals.
Here are eight of the very best goals that Henry scored on American soil:
This Half Volley Against Chicago Fire After Collecting a 30-Yard Lobbed Pass
