Video Shows Moment Kevin Ward Jr. Was Hit By Tony Stewart’s Car

August 11, 2014: WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT. Three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart hit and killed another driver, Kevin Ward Jr., during a sprint car race Saturday night.

A video uploaded on YouTube, shows the 20-year-old getting out of his car at Canandaigua Motorsports Park during the race before being hit by Stewart’s car and hurled 50 feet.

Ward was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Although it’s not clear what made the racer climb out of his automobile mid-race, witnesses claim the two racers were involved in a confrontation.

Following the tragic incident, controversial speculations started to emerge, implying Stewart – also referred to as NASCAR’s resident hothead – may have intentionally hit his rival.

However, as of this writing, no criminal charges have been filed against the driver.

In his first statement after the crash, Stewart said on Sunday afternoon:

“There aren’t words to describe the sadness I feel about the accident that took the life of Kevin Ward Jr. It’s a very emotional time for all involved, and it is the reason I’ve decided not to participate in today’s race at Watkins Glen. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and everyone affected by this tragedy.”
