Almost all team sports that are adjudicated by referees have the problem of players faking fouls to tip the scales in their side's favor. In soccer they call it diving and in basketball they call it flopping.
In this era of players trying to dupe match officials into giving questionable calls, one man's show of great sportsmanship has left everyone impressed.
The man in question is a German soccer star named Aaron Hunt, whose dive inside the penalty box was taken as a genuine foul by the ref. Instead of taking it, Aaron did the unthinkable.
Hunt 'the fair play maestro' got up and told the ref to reverse the call as it wasn't a foul.
As expected, his gesture won him instant plaudits, first from the opposing team's players and fans, and later from international press.
It is, however, pertinent to mention here that Hunt's team – Werder Bremen – were 2-0 up at the time of the incident, and with just 15 minutes left on the clock, a win was almost in the bag. Some are questioning if he'd have done the same in case the game was on the line.
But whatever the naysayers say, Hunt's was a very unique and fair gesture, something which more athletes around the world should do. Hi there, LeBron!
