Facebook has taken a leap to fill a gender gap by giving users about 50 different option to identify their gender.
So no more choosing just ‘male’ or ‘female’ or ‘other’ when you sign up. You can Agender, non-binary, trans, trans woman, trans man, trans person, etc)
What’s more, they’re also extending the options to their pronoun game.
You can now select ‘him’, ‘her’, or a neutral ‘they’ as your preferred pronoun, which Facebook will use to remind people that it’s your birthday.
Brielle Harrison, a Facebook software engineer, is herself undergoing gender transformation and was a part of the project “There’s going to be a lot of people for whom this is going to mean nothing, but for the few it does impact, it means the world,” she says. “All too often transgender people like myself and other gender nonconforming people are given this binary option, do you want to be male or female? What is your gender? And it’s kind of disheartening because none of those let us tell others who we really are. This really changes that, and for the first time I get to go to the site and specify to all the people I know what my gender is.”
