A new teaser video shows Lexus' prototype for their "Back to the Future"-esque hoverboard.

The internet has been whining “where are our hover cars?!” for years since the release of Back to the Future.

It’s true that in the movie’s futuristic vision of 2015, there was high tech and even higher flying cars all over. We don’t have that yet, but we have the next best thing: the hoverboard.

Since we first saw Marty McFly adapting his sweet skateboarding skills to the hoverboard, kids and adults alike have dreaming of hovering around over the ground. Lexus is here to make our dreams come true.

According to a Lexus press release via Forbes, the prototype is powered by “magnetic levitation via liquid nitrogen cooled superconductors and permanent magnets.” Thanks science!

Now time for the bad news: Lexus has also said the board only works on special metallic surfaces for now, and not the pavement seen in the video. Further testing will occur over the next few weeks and hopefully we’ll get an extended look at how the hover board works. For now, we’ll have to settle with the teaser video.
