Siri has been speaking out of the phones of Apple users since October 2011. Now, Microsoft is preparing to launch its Siri rival: Cortana. Cortana, like Siri, can learn the preferences of its user over time, and will offer assistance based on what it has stored in the past, and contextual info, like location data. Cortana, whose name my change before the release, will be included in the Windows Phone 8.1.
Microsoft gave the Verge an early look at Cortana. Looks like Microsoft is playing up Cortana’s ability to understand natural language. All images via The Verge:
Seems she's a bit of a showoff:
As long as Cortana is competitive with Siri, this is good news. A race between the major tech companies to make these “personal assistants” useful and smoothly integrated into the rest of what we’re doing will slowly start to solve the awkward features of smart phones, like transfering data between apps, that we already take for granted.
