One of the world’s leading entrepreneurs, Elon Musk, who wants to transport people to Mars, is now planning to take on the US government. The CEO of SpaceX and Tesla Motors is unhappy over the $7.2 billion contract awarded to United Launch Alliance (ULA).
The Alliance, a joint venture of Lockheed Martin and Boeing, has been awarded the multi-billion dollar contract to use 36 rocket cores to launch GPS satellites, among other things, into space for the federal government.
Musk said in a press conference, "SpaceX is not saying that these launches should be awarded to us. We're just protesting and saying that these launches should be competed. If we compete and lose, that's fine, but why were they not even competed? That just doesn't make sense."
According to him, the US is spending billions of dollars of US tax payer money “for no reason”.
Musk highlighted the fact that the ULA rockets are four times more expensive than SpaceX. He also criticized the US government for allegedly sending the money to Russia at a time when Moscow is under sanctions for invading Ukraine.
According to a SpaceX spokesperson, the company has already filed a notice that it plans to sue the US Air Force. It won’t be long before the suit is filed in the federal court.
