Here’s What Happens When You Eat The World’s Hottest Chili Pepper

June, 12, 2014: Can you imagine gulping down Tabasco sauce at your leisure? No? Now imagine eating a pepper more than 400 times hotter. It kind of puts things in perspective.

We haven’t seen this many people crying and puking at one place since the premier of the last Twilight film.

In a recent event, organized by Chili Klaus in Copenhagen, 1,000 people somehow agreed to eat the ghost chili. Originally called the bhut jolokia, it is one of the hottest chili peppers in the world.

The ghost pepper challenge required each volunteer to eat one of the red hot chili peppers – wink – and keep it down without puking it out.

The bhut jolokia is cultivated in the Indian states of Assam and Nagaland and was certified by Guinness World Records as the hottest chili pepper in the world. It is rated at more than 1 million Scoville heat units (SHUs) in terms of hotness. That makes it 401.5 times hotter than Tabasco sauce.
