“Benno” the Belgian Malinois visited the vet after eating 23 live rounds of 308 caliber ammunition.
The veterinarian removed 17 rounds from Benno’s stomach during surgery but left two that were located in his esophagus, which the dog “was allowed to discharge on his own.”
According to owner Larry ‘Sonny’ Brassfield, the Arkansas pooch has a bad habit of eating bizarre objects. The Baxter Bulletin compiled a list of Benno’s unusual diet:
- Stuffed animals
- Rubber toys
- Tennis Shoes
- Hair brush
- Drywall (yes, he literally ate a piece of wall)
Veterinarian Sarah Sexton told The Baxter Bulletin:
“We said in school there’s what’s in the books and there’s what you see in the real world. This is something they certainly did not cover in school I’ve had dogs eat things before, mostly stuffed toys. Once I had one swallow a hearing aid but I think this takes the cake.”
Brassfield says he won’t leave ammo lying around anymore, but isn’t too hopeful the four-year-old dog will stick to eating dog food just yet.
