An Atlanta barber is making headlines for coming up with a novel punishment for misbehaving children.
He calls it the Benjamin Button special.
“The cut involves shaving hair off the child’s crown until he begins to resemble a balding senior citizen, inviting that unique brand of adolescent humiliation that can only come from teasing classmates and unwanted attention,” the Washington Post reported.
Russell Fredrick at A-1 Kutz said that the first person to get this unusual haircut was his own 12-year-old son, Rushawn, when his grades fell.
“So u wana act grown…well now u look grown too,” the barber wrote on Instagram. “The grown-up kids special. Bring more bad kids to @a1__kutz for this kut.”Here’s the viral photo which made A1-Kutz an Internet phenomenonAlthough the general response has been positive, some people have criticized Frederick for public shaming and negatively affecting a child’s self-esteem.
The barber said parents should use the Benjamin Button special as a last resort to discipline children.
"I hope that most people won't have to do this unless it's an extreme circumstances and nothing else is working," he told the Post. "First, you talk or implement your restrictions. But when the conventional ways don't work these days, you have to get creative."
Frederick gave his son a proper haircut after he “learned his lesson.”
