It seems the overbearing little-league parent has taken hold of Buffalo Grove, and a new snarky sign is the park’s attempt to fight back.
The sign starts by reminding everyone that, “This is a game being played by children.”
The metal sign, which is nailed to the field’s backstop in plain view, goes on to remind parents that few, if any little leaguers from Buffalo Grove have gone on to play professionally, and that it is unlikely that college or pro scouts are there watching the ten-year olds play.
The sign informs parents that the reason their kids are playing is to have fun, and that they should do everything they can to keep it that way.
I remember playing Little League myself and yes, the screaming parent is often able to ruin the game for everyone. The irony with youth sports is that usually parents care way more about the outcome of the game than the kids do. Playing baseball is boring!
The sign tells parents to support all the kids, give the umpires a break, and generally chill out. That’s a solid message to send.
