A new optical illusion has the Internet in a frenzy of confusion.  Swiss photographer, Tiziana Vergari, shared a photo on Instagram that sparked uncertainty among her followers about what they were seeing.

No one could figure out how many girls were actually in the photo. It’s evident that there were some type of mirror tricks involved in creating the artistic image, but it was still very unclear how many actual humans were photographed.

If you guessed that there were only two girls in the photo, you’re correct. Vergari chimed in on the comments to settle all the confusion. The image shows two sisters, who happen to be Vergari’s daughters, looking into mirrors.

The older girl is looking at a mirror that is out of the camera’s view which contributed to the trickery.

Vergari made a cryptic joke in her comment that she didn’t know how many people were in the picture, but she is definitely sure she only has two daughters.

Another viral phenomenon similar to this one occurred when a teen posted a photo of her mother, her twin sister and herself.

The resemblance between the three ladies was so uncanny, that the Internet nearly exploded trying to figure out who was who. People were particularly fascinated by how a mother of two teenage girls could look young enough to be their triplet.

Although the mystery is gone from Vergari’s photo, it is so elegant and captivating that it’s still receiving well-deserved attention.
