Is This A Picture Of Bill Murray Or Tom Hanks?

An old photo of Bill Murray pretending to cry has caused an internet frenzy over whether it was really him or actor Tom Hanks.

Film actor Bill Murray

Hold on to your hats folks, for we may have the biggest internet debate since The Dress on our hands. And doesn’t come with just any Hollywood celebrity, it’s got Bill Murray.

The internet’s love affair with Murray is somewhat inexplicable. It’s not just that he looks like the fun pretend uncle everyone wants. Nor that he seems like the kind of Hollywood celebrity you could run into on a sidewalk on your way to 7-Eleven for a Hawaiian Punch-flavored Slurpee. There’s a cool, a certain je ne sais quoi, about him that is quintessentially Murray.

But let’s not kid ourselves Murray is an incredible actor. He proved that beautifully in Sofia Coppola’s "Lost In Translation." Coppola herself has said in interviews that when she cast the role, it was either Murray or no one else. That’s his appeal, there’s no one like him.

There was "Groundhog Day" before that, a movie about a man living one day of his life, over and over and over again, which is basically just Murray in the form of a movie.

And he’s done it once again because apparently when he acts like a crying baby, he looks just like Tom Hanks and the internet is going nuts over it.

A Facebook user, Laura DiMichele-Ross, in a Facebook group called, Reasons My Son Is Crying posted the picture back in 2013. Her husband, Adam Ross, took the picture in 2012 of the alleged Murray mimicking her son's expression at St Andrews golf course in Scotland.

Speaking to the Guardian, DiMichele-Ross, said the picture, “pops up on Facebook every few months.”

“We are finding this very funny,” she said. “I personally don’t see the resemblance to Tom Hanks but we’ve noticed that people have been mentioning it for years.”

Two years later, DiMichele-Ross happened to meet Murray again and got him to autograph the photo.
