Cheerleader Breaks Handspring World Record By Doing 35 Back Flips Over 15 Yards In 30 Seconds

A high school cheerleader flipped her way into the Guinness Book of World Records Friday night.

Miranda Ferguson, a 16-year-old junior at the Hockaday School, displayed her handspring talents during halftime for the St. Mark's School of Texas game against the Oakridge School.

The accomplishment was about a year in the making.

Ferguson was on a flipping frenzy last year and did 20 handsprings in a row at a game. One of her friends suggested she could set a record, which she later discovered was 32.

So she started practicing.

During a recent practice she hit the magic number 32 and then during Friday night's game she flipped 35 consecutive times, springing from the 15 yard line to the 15 yard line.

Afterward, Ferguson said she was extremely excited and very relieved because she was really nervous.

"Really just the fans out there really helped me get through it," she said.

Two officials from the Guinness Book of World Records were there to witness and count along.
