For those of us who have the ability to hear it is difficult to imagine never being able to hear the voices of those we love the most, our favorite song, the ocean, or the rain. In this touching video, which went viral after being posted to Reddit, a deaf mother hears her son’s voice for the first time. For those of us who have the ability to hear it is difficult to imagine never being able to hear the voices of those we love the most, our favorite song, the ocean, or the rain. In this touching video, which went viral after being posted to Reddit, a deaf mother hears her son’s voice for the first time. At twenty-six years old, Amy gets the chance many people who are deaf never get.

The video was uploaded to YouTube by Amy’s aunt, Catherine Arnold. In the description Catherine explains that Amy has been deaf all of her life and has never heard the voice of her parents, or her six-year-old son, Blake.

In this video, Amy is using implants to help her hear sounds. At first she can feel the vibrations, which she explained “felt weird.” She is noticeably nervous. Then she begins to be able to hear people talking to her, and finally heard her son say “hi Mom!” which brought her to tears of course.

It has been six months since Amy’s aunt uploaded the video. Catherine Arnold updated the “About” section with this note: “thank you to everyone that appreciates and feels what a beautiful time this was and continues to be for Amy and our families. She is continuing her hard work of speech and sound therapy to distinguish what sound is. Her pronunciation has improved vastly and she can hear words and especially music!”
