UPDATE: Doritos has announced their semi-finalists, and we reviewed all of them. Because we love you.
Doritos is set to announce the semi finalists to its annual Crash the Super Bowl contest. The rules are simple: make a 30-second ad for Doritos. The top two winners get their Doritos ad on the Super Bowl, and one of them gets a million dollars. The other gets $50,000 and a Super Bowl ticket. Finalists get $25,000 and a trip to New York for a private Super Bowl watching party hosted by Doritos (I’ll admit, I’m curious). The semi-finalists get $1,000 each.
Thousands of people submitted entries to the Doritos contest, and I watched way too many of them. It’s hard to make a good, 30-second ad, and if you want to appreciate the people who do it for a living, watch some of the people that don’t. That said, some of the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl entrants did a great job, and could be seeing a $1,000 check in the mail sometime soon, or even 25 grand and a plane ticket.
Here are the top 10 entries from Doritos’ Crash the Super Bowl contest. Semi-finalists will be announced on Tuesday (UPDATE: We are still anxiously waiting for Doritos to make the big announcement. If they keep delaying, I call for a fan movement for Dorito Dance as winner):
10. Nacho Dealership
There were a number of these that show what people will do for Doritos. This is one of the best.
9. Good Kid
Who will you betray for Doritos? Everyone.
8. Dorito Duel
Doritos have been known to make people think they have super powers.
7. Dorito Suit
Doritos can also make people believe they are in a strange and magical situation.
6. Stadium Power
This one sneaks onto the list for its reference to the bizarre power outage at last year’s Super Bowl.
5. None For You
A cat driving a truck. Need I say more?
4. Sibling Rivalry
This one is creepy (though not as creepy as some of the ones I’m not putting on here!), but hey sibling rivalries can start in the womb. Usually not over Doritos that are out of the womb, but we’ll let that slide.
3. Chip Flix
A lot of the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl entries look the same. Not this one. Major points for most original Doritos ad.
2. Robot Arms
Speaking of Doritos Crash the Super Bowl entries that look like the rest, this one uses the most common theme—someone doing something absurd or reckless to satisfy their need for Doritos—but does it really well.
1. The Dorito Dance
You disagree, and that’s fine, but for my money, this is the most Super Bowl worthy of the Crash the Super Bowl contest entries. If they pick this one, I might actually buy a bag of Doritos to show support.
