Being a mom is certainly the toughest job in the world but being a father is no piece of cake either. While anyone can be a father, it is being a dad which takes a lot of effort.
The new Dove commercial, Calls For Dad, lets dads all around the world bask in the short-lived glory of Father’s Day. Dove is known for its heart-wrenching, thought-provoking, and often controversial commercials.
Their Real Beauty Sketches video garnered hundreds of millions of views on YouTube and went on to receive the Titanium Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions festival in 2013.
This time around, the company focused on children calling for their dads for help ranging from small chores to their life’s problems. The visuals of the video are as moving as its subtext. Did we ever realize how we took our fathers for granted while we celebrated our mothers?
Looking back, we realize they were always there. In their upright rigidity and their gentle bearings, we sought comfort. As soon as the realization sinks in, somehow a bunch of children calling their dad seems all the more impassioned.
Dove, as part of its Men + Care campaign, recently conducted a survey with 1,000 fathers asking what qualities best described dads as portrayed in the media. Almost 64 percent felt that their portrayal was inaccurate with the most popular answers describing it as "disconnected," "bumbling" and "incompetent."
It is time for us to shatter the stereotypes and give our dads what they really deserve. May be that will be the greatest Father’s Day gift ever.
