Family’s Alarm Clock Gets Stuck In Wall, Rings Every Day For 13 Years

Hearing the alarm go off once or twice a day can be painful. But what if your alarm is ringing most of the day?

A family living in Ross Township, just north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been tormented by their alarm clock since the past 13 years, as it rings every day without fail.

It all started of in 2004 when Jerry Lynn, wanted to drill a hole in a wall of his home for a TV cable. But because he didn’t know where exactly to drill, Lynn came up with the brilliant (now, not so brilliant idea) of tying an alarm clock to a string and lowering it through an air vent. He thought the sound of the alarm would be an indicator of where he was to make the hole.

But unfortunately, things didn’t work out as he had planned.

Lynn had set the alarm for 10 minutes, after which he lowered the clock into the wall, but things took an unexpected turn when it broke from the string and fell off inside.

“All of I sudden I heard it go thunk as it went loose and I thought, ‘Well that’s not a real problem, it’s still going to go off' and it did,” he said.

Since the alarm clock had come off the string, it was impossible to pull it back up, so Lynn figured he would bear with it ringing until its battery ran out. But now even in 2017, the alarm hasn’t given way and goes off every day.

“In daylight savings it goes off 10 minutes to eight every night and during regular standard time, 10 minutes to seven,” Lynn said.

His wife, Sylvia Lynn, who also suffers the repercussions of her husband’s not so smart idea, said the alarm ringing out of nowhere often shocks visitors.

“It starts as a soft beep, beep, beep, beep, beep and it gets more louder and closer together and you get people saying ‘what is that?’” she said.

Interestingly, Lynn added that even though he could find a solution to the problem and perhaps remove the clock from the wall, he doesn’t want to do so since the noise has become a part of their lives.

Here’s what Twitter users have to say about it.
