Someone in Japan has an awesome dog. Golden retrievers are known to be friendly, but this one goes a step beyond. It tries to make friends with a passing ambulance. Or at least to communicate in the language of the ambulance: the siren.

Someone in Japan has an awesome dog. Golden retrievers are known to be friendly, but this one goes a step beyond. It tries to make friends with a passing ambulance. Or at least to communicate in the language of the ambulance: the siren.

After watching an ambulance go by, siren wailing, the dog replies. At first it sounds like a standard howl, but over a few seconds, the dog refines its pitch and eliminates all but a single high tone. Of course, sirens aren’t just high-pitched tones, they oscillate. And so the dog does too.

It’s fun to try and imagine what was going on in this hound’s mind. Probably something like, “I don’t know what that thing was, or what it was trying to say, but I’m going to try to say it back.”

And hey, in case you think hitting those notes is easy, just check out this attempt:
